Can thirst be related to water retention?

I have surfed the net, trying to find answers for my water retention. I am not overweight (55 kgs) but I wake up every morning with heavily swollen eyes, hands, fingers, feet etc.

Something else that pops up lately is that at times I become extremely thirsty and then I can drink a litre of water at a time.  Is this thirst related to the water retention?

Answer

First do get checked out by a doctor just to rule out anything serious. Second, make sure you are drinking at least 2 litres of water every day. Dehydration can make your body hold on to water, causing swellings. If you are getting dehydrated then this will certainly cause great thirst.

Eating a diet lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables and containing too much salt, sugar and deep-fried foods can also encourage water retention.

If this doesn’t help then try to get a copy of the Waterfall Diet book for more information about water retention. Reading it may help you to get some insights into your problem.

I have been dieting and exercising for 3 months, and am gaining weight! This weekend alone I have just gained 5lbs!! I have been to the doctors as I thought I had water retention but she said because my ankles werent swollen it wasnt that, even though my tummy, back legs, hands (cant wear my wedding ring anymore) and face (but mainly in the morning) are swollen. They tested for hormone and thyroid problems and they are normal. I also went shopping yesterday for a few hours, and when I came back my ankles were swollen, and the skin on my legs felt so tight it hurt.
